I just received my LAU monthly magazine .. Skimming through the various articles one of them got my attention .. The title is " It's not just about books anymore .. LAU Libraries evolve as dynamic centers for online resources and social activity". Indeed .. Libraries and schools of education are becoming more advanced and thus more revolving around technological advancements . Books can be downloaded via internet no need to buy a book and hold it with you .. you can simply download it on your smart phone or ipad . Libraries don't use anymore the old index cards to search for a book .. you can just look throughout the system provided by the library itself . No more wasting your time looking for a specific book . Your book is just one click away. Libraries now are competing to have the best online databases. The library becomes more important and more popular if it provides the readers with accurate and feasible online information. It crossed my mind whether my kids and the next generations will be able to hold a book or how to handle a book. Many are emphasizing the role of technology in education but is it right to start putting books aside and focus on technological devices ?

since students have been able to reach the information they want at the tip of their fingers, it would be harder to ask them to go to libraries and search in shelves and then start flipping pages and read lines and lines to reach what they want....
ReplyDeleteIts really like having the world on your finger tips. Students nowadays dont bother skimming through a shelf to find a book then flip its pages to find the data! the technology made it alot easier for them to get information. we should never ignore books cause no matter how advanced we get , the smell of a book remains special
ReplyDeleteIt is a nice application at the levels of universities but the question is : how much can this applied at the schools level. Would schools and parents be able to handle this new world fees? what kind of privacy and control could implemented upon such wild world?
ReplyDeleteHello Rama, very interesting post. Although technology is highly facilitating for us the real fear of not having the need to read or hold a book is very concerning. In addition, I believe that this aspect could really be detrimental if not used properly by our society, diminish privacy and even limit social interaction, what do you believe we could do to avoid this?
